Sharmyn McGraw

Double Trouble Publishing Author, Artist, Advocate

About this speaker

Sharmyn McGraw struggled in school, unaware of her dyslexia until college, when she tested at a fourth-grade English level. Back then, without computers, writing felt out of reach. Later, after years of battling unexplained health issues and medical misdiagnoses, she was finally diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and underwent life-saving pituitary surgery in 2000. Her experience motivated her to conquer her fear of writing and help others by raising awareness. Her first published article in Women’s Day reached millions and saved lives—proving the power of storytelling. Since then, she’s spent 25 years as a patient advocate. Today, Sharmyn is living her childhood dream as a mystery writer and creator of Keep Your Story Straight workbooks, helping other writers stay organized and inspired.
